Sharon Cockerton earned a Bachelor of Mathematics degree
from the University of Waterloo, followed by her Bachelor of Education from the
University of Ottawa in 2001. After several years teaching math at Sacred Heart
High School, she completed the University of Waterloo’s Master of Mathematics
for Teachers degree in 2013. Sharon moved into teaching from her earlier career as a programmer/analyst.
This work experience helped shape her approach to teaching, making her well-aware
of workplace needs for university- and college-bound students. Known as a
creative thinker and a tireless innovator who leads by example, Sharon has
served as Math Department Head at Sacred Heart since 2005. Her advocacy for the
use of technology in teaching, collaborative approach to timetabling and emphasis
on the mastery of core skills have all contributed to ever-increasing student
success. Sharon likes to spend time with her son, two daughters and
her granddaughter. She is an avid recreational Master’s swimmer, runner, and
cyclist who enjoys traveling.
